And here, above me, now...is the lesser spotted "development team fanboy".

In the Gandes or, perhaps, just a room in a house, in the Netherlands, people who play a game called "Live for Speed" come to breed.

In search of the best mate, they proudly proclaim their...affection...for...this racing simulator.

It doesn't really work without the voice but yeah. At least someone should get what I'm trying to do.

Ah this wasn't the first time you have done this if I remember.. Without understanding you won't be able to fix anything. It's all very well fixing the problem but without understanding why the problem occured you won't have actually answered anything.

Oh well, at least it serves a purpose for me to not bother wasting my time at 2am trying to help you when you're just gonna be like "ah well **** it walking up and down the stairs heaven forbid i lose a few pounds so much effort *sadface*"

Check you haven't set up a static address, that's caught me out so many times, even when I can't remember clicking it...open network connections, right click, properties, IPV4-> Propterties > automatically assign a network address.

You should check to see if you have a link light on, I generally work up the OSI stack for connectivity problems..
So if no link light then that would indicate a layer 1 problem (or layer 8- user!!) meaning no physical connection, if that's the case try another cable, make sure it's actually plugged in, etc If you are getting a link light then read on......

Although I doubt a virus will knock out your ethernet drivers look under device manager to see if there are any problems with your ethernet adaptors..

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

You will need to have view hidden/protected files enabled
File called "Hosts"
Open it with notepad.
Should have the following:

# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

If it had something like:

212.152.24.1 acme.com

and you haven't put it there then probably something the virus has done. Remove it. Some of the scareware (as in the fake anti-virus software) modify the hosts file to allow for downloading of additional trojans.

Presume you're connecting to a wireless router (these also have ethernet ports in them normally) power it off and then back on, sometimes they can do weird things. When connected wirelessly if you perform an "ipconfig" in a command prompt it should show you getting a local IP address probably a 192.168.x.x - If you are connected via wire, if you run a "ipconfig" are you getting an IP address?

I agree. The poignant fanboyism is clear to see.

I have been playing some other racing games lately at my friends house, CARS I really like, GT5 with a G27, fantastic, I bought GT5 on the PS3 the DAY BEFORE general release from Blockbuster for £23. That wasn't mates rates either, I have a blockbuster card thus get the mail leaflets about special offers and it was GT5 for £23.

CARS cost my mate nothing and is better than LFS I think...physics need a bit of tweaking and while I can drift happily on LFS, GT5, Forza etc, I find it impossible to drift for more than about 2 seconds on CARS, the graphics and amazing cars do sort of make it OK - Forza 4 and GT5 do online racing well. LFS is way behind anything out currently, anyone to deny this is either an idiot or ignorant to the facts.
Compare racing sims to girls...CARS is Sienna Miller, GT5 is Rihanna, LFS is Stacey from your local pub. Sure she's not ugly but lacks the pizzaz and "wow" of the other girls.
The realism is still quite good, low speed handling is crap and while LFS is one of the few games to actually model turbo lag fairly well the graphics look like something from 2004, there's been no updates at all and even if S3 does come out, unless it's got the graphical detail of CARS and some of the features and what not of the latest games such as DIRT3 with the water effects, etc, it's going to be a mediocore title in a very competitive market.

If I want a full out driving sim, guess what - I'll go for a drive! Everything else is simply going to be a best compromise...Shift 2, looks nice but physics are too shit...iRacing, again a great game but way too expensive...CARS...very promising I will wait to see final release costs etc but the beta at the moment isn't costing anything, GT5 is probably the best all rounder for me at the moment.

Quote from R34GTR :Until they go wrong and you have massive repair bills

Yeah some have problems but most people I've heard haven't had any problems at all. If you have a full VW service (especially in regards to the DSG oil changes, etc) history normally VW will honour any after-warranty claims or at least offer 70% contribution which takes it from like £3000 to £500.. Although the mechatronic units are scarily expensive...normally about £3500!! Although having the higher torque limit means that in my case I wouldn't have had to spend £600 on an uprated clutch and single mass flywheel !

Coming along well just a bit slow due to funds...will post pics when my summer wheels are back on with the spacers and new suspension. The spacers were a present from my Dad and the coilovers i bought very very cheap

Quote from Becky Rose :No, no you're not. You havn't at all and every one else is justing listing stuff they've been given. This thread is like some kind of weird gratification of the expression of personal wealth and greed measured in the fortune of the generosity of others. It's just surreal, and it happens every year.

I know you are excited about your new toys an' all, but I dont understand the need to list your presents to other people on a forum. It's like you are all saying "Be envious of MEEEEEE people, because I have a relative who can afford to spend £150 on ME. Yes, it is ME who has the hugest epenis cock of bloodwealth of you all. Fear me, for I am Super Capitalist Man. The personification of greed itself, the one, the only, mighty internet forum enviousor of the heathen peasant masses, the jock with the biggest pocket wedge of them all, I am Christmas Gift Recipient of the Year 2011. Hell yeah people, bow down and worship my awesome new capitalistic greed possessions denoting my near middle classness.".

Normally I agree with you on this sort of thing but sorry really do think you're having a giraffe and need to get over yourself. Either you enjoy Christmas and sharing your presents with others or you don't. If you do, post up a list or some pics, if you don't, go away. My family certainly aren't rich, no-one spent more than about £150 on me (which fits conveniently into your story) and yet most people I know AT LEAST twice as much spent on them. They all got PS3s and iPad2s and iPhone4s and what not...I don't get any of that stuff..and yet do I moan about it?
cheesecake.

No-one has gone "oh my present is better than yours you really poor person"...so ssh.

I played Battlefield 3 for the first time in the last couple of days.

hated it. Much prefered Battlefield 2 and Bad Company 1/2 for online. I hate the way the guns sway and have so much inertia, very hard to be precise with your aim, I'm no god when it comes to FPS but I can generally hold my own and even trying to get accustomed to the way the guns handle made me want to smash the TV. Not only that but I found the menu customisation options for weapons and loadouts to be such a pain in the ass. Half the time I'd accidentally select a shotgun from the quick-select box when actually trying to choose my spawn point.

IN GENERAL, I would play and pick Battlefield over Call of Duty any day but unfortunately I just can't get on with BF3 and so for MW3 vs BF3 I pick MW3 :sadbanana

Although I still think BF2(+packs), BF:BC1/2 and even BF:P4F are better than any Call of Duty..

I always used Windows Movie Maker to compress movies. It's crap for editing (I'd use Adobe Premier Pro) but for compression it's very good. I'd always use the setting for "viewing on the local device/LAN" or something like that (been ages since I've done a video).
When uploaded it would allow me after a few hours to put it into 720p or 1080 depending on device used to record.

Quote from e2mustang :All i see in that post is: im not sure,im not sure, than again im not sure.

Stock bmw clutches can handle 300 hp easily, engine internals are good for biig hp,without any upgraded headgasket and craps.
If he only wants a little bigger turbo and remap,he'll be just fine.

The only problem with your theory is that clutches are rated to BHP where in actual fact they are rated to a torque loading. BHP does not kill clutches, it's the torque that causes them to slip. With a custom map and a hybrid turbo, if he is running say 210bhp and 350lb ft torque, which is about right, the clutch will not be able to take it for very long. I very very very much doubt BMW provide a clutch capable of running 50% more torque than standard, that would be a massive over kill. Automatics are better for tuning anyway, in the case of my VW scene the DSG gearboxes are the ones to pick if you want big powa.

Quote from Töki (HUN) :Also, why would you tune a diesel? I'm not a hater or anything, I drive a 525 TDS daily. But once you already decided you want more power, why don't you get a 25i or something stronger?

Personally I prefer a diesel to a petrol. Although the cost savings are something to do with it as well...although I am getting a Golf Mk5 GTI next, that's because they manage to do 40mpg on a cruise, my car is about as quick as a GTI in gear but I average 55mpg!

335s also have twin turbos = more overhead to tune with!
Dan a remap on a 320d will net you about 175-185 depending on the tuner. If you want to then go further you will need to run a hybrid turbo. £850

Although doing that causes more problems.. Firstly is clutch - very unlikely to be able to take the torque of a hybrid turbo. You will need to upgrade to a paddle clutch and appropriate flywheel which can be £1000. I'm not sure what the injectors are like on a 320d but if they are nearly at max duty cycle after a remap, those will need upgrading as well in order to see higher gains. You can't just whack a hybrid turbo onto a car and run it at 28psi. If there's not enough fuel to pass through it can cause a lot of damage. A set of higher performance but second hand injectors (usually from other models but which fit your application) are around £300.

Again I'm not sure whether the 320d has a FMIC or a SMIC (and if you don't know what these are then don't bother tuning anything) but if it only has a SMIC, you'll need to upgrade to an FMIC, of which a cheapy-ebay one can be had for about £200. You'll then need to uprate the boost pipes to aftermarket silicone ones with decent fixtures and fittings. £150.

I'm not sure what the internals on the 320d can take, on my Golf which comes out the factory with 105, you can happy run 220bhp all day without any internal work. Once you go past 250 you'll need uprated cams and pistons so research into this would be necessary.

After all of the above you will need a custom remap, a decent tuner will keep the car for a few days and fine tune every single throttle opening and loading options within the ECU and these cost about £400.

So basically you're looking £3000 to hybridise a diesel including the labour. You can't just put a whacking great big turbo on and run it at, or near to, standard pressure either. doesn't work like that unfortuantely. anyway best of luck merry christmas.

that wing that cage those wheels and removing all the interior should at least have given you an extra 100hp

Still don't see why you stripped the interior out...turned a nice car into a chav machine tbh.

anyway sure the 5 lb weight saving you made sure made it feel quicker. nice bit of flame though.

PS3 and Good PC games (new/recent ones) I will buy. I buy the odd Album but only after I've downloaded it.
Downloading has many benefits, especially in ease of use. I use my PC more for media, songs, movies etc, than I do for Games. I have a few games, call of duty, Quake 4, Half life series, etc, but I rarely play them. Partly because my computer is a couple of years out of date (plays Crysis 2 OK though) but partly because I've sort of grown out of sitting at my PC for hours playing away.

Now I've downloaded over 350gb in these last 7 days, mainly DVD boxsets etc. Most of these I already have but as I'm moving soon, it's going to be a pain. Discs are annoying, you either lose them, end up putting them in the wrong box, never to be found again - or drop them antecedently and they pick up a load of scratches. Just what you need. Plus for most TV shows, every 3 or 4 episodes you need to move and change disc, it's an effort - Where as where I've downloaded them, I can select the episodes that i want to watch and put them on from the comfort of my bed, can even do it using my iPhone as a mouse (but it's hard to read the episodes from 10 ft away on my little 19 inch widescreen monitor. When I move I'll undoubtedly lose some things but I won't lose my PC which has everything on it.
It's a win-win. If these companies made it easy so I could easily burn Season 5 of House to my PC then, great - I'd have done that, but because they haven't I've downloaded it. I've already got it on DVD so they can hardly do me for piracy, it's a personal copy and I've already bought the DVD so in that respect the license is valid (although technically you are only licences to view that copy on that DVD not another).

Depends on how far they want to push it, they won't be able to stop online piracy, it's here to stay and some performing artists actually appreciate it because only about 8% of their income is from record sales, most of it from promotional material such as T-Shirts, shows, royalties from radio play and, the biggest chunk, live performances!! If they want to stop piracy are they also going to put some sort of chip into DVD players which mean you can only play that copy of the DVD on the first DVD player you put it into, to stop you lending it to your mates?
